The Barber Program (1,000 Hours) at MH Beauty Academy is structured to meet the 1,000-hour education requirements mandated by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
This program blends intensive hands-on practical training with theoretical instruction in a state-of-the-art facility. Students will master traditional and modern barbering techniques, including precision hair cutting, razor shaves, beard trimming and design, hair coloring, chemical services, scalp treatments, and essential sanitation procedures required for State Board licensure.
Learning outcomes
- Health, Safety & Regulations: Master sanitation, sterilization, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical risk management, and California State Board laws.
- Precision Haircutting & Fades: Master men’s haircutting techniques, including skin fades, tapers, scissor work, clipper-over-comb, and texturizing.
- Shaving & Facial Hair Design: Execute traditional straight razor shaves, hot towel treatments, beard trimming, outline edging, and mustache shaping.
- Chemical & Hair Treatments: Perform chemical hair coloring, bleaching, perming, chemical relaxing, and specialized scalp treatments.
- Facial Services for Men: Apply gentlemen’s facial massage and skincare techniques tailored for barbershop clients.
- Barbershop Management & Ethics: Build professional client relationships, learn shop administration, marketing, and client retention strategies.

Career information
Graduates of the 1,000-hour Barber Program who successfully pass the California State Board licensing exam can establish rewarding careers in barbershops, men's grooming lounges, or launch independent businesses. Job placement assistance is provided upon graduation.
